Tom Mulvaney is a registered psychologist and offers counselling for people of all ages and backgrounds. Tom understands that therapy can be an unfamiliar experience for many so he enjoys working with people to create therapeutic partnerships that are safe, open and mutually respectful. He will bring curiosity and care to the therapeutic space.
Tom recognises the courage required to engage in therapy and has a deep respect for the strengths, potential and resilience that sit within each of us. He also understands that sometimes we just feel stuck. Therapy will explore those things that are working well and also those areas that need to look different.
Tom enjoys unpacking the complexity or ‘grey areas’ that we all experience in life. He thinks outside of the box and enjoys the collaboration involved in building a therapeutic relationship and in exploring together new approaches to living. He figures that together our ideas are better.
Tom draws on training and experience in a range of evidence based practices. These include the integration of strategies from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Schema Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Tom practices through a trauma informed lens and applies this to his leadership in other roles. These strategies are adapted to suit the client’s needs and experience.
Tom’s high energy means he loves being active and having fun outdoors, however he also prioritises time for reading and reflection. He has worked in the fields of bush adventure therapy, family case management, leadership and psychology. Tom’s studies have focused on adventure therapies, play and family relationships. Tom has held positions in the Australian Association of Bush Adventure Therapy and is a member of the Australian Psychological Society.
